Diabetes management often involves frequent insulin injections to maintain blood sugar control. However, repeated injections in the same areas can lead to various problems, including discomfort, bruising, and the development of lipodystrophy. These issues can impact insulin absorption, overall glycemic control, and patient experience.
My role in this feature was to find and develop the technical solution for creating an interactive and seamless user experience within the android application.
Diabetes management often involves frequent insulin injections to maintain blood sugar control. However, repeated injections in the same areas can lead to various problems, including discomfort, bruising, and the development of lipodystrophy. These issues can impact insulin absorption, overall glycemic control, and patient experience.
To address the problem of discomfort and adverse effects caused by repeated injections in the same areas, we introduced an interactive injection point management feature. The feature allows patients to:
Zoom In and Out: The feature offers zooming functionality, allowing patients to magnify specific areas of the 2D representation of their body. This enables them to view injection points in detail and choose alternative sites for insulin administration.
Rotate and Disable Injection Points: Patients can rotate the 2D model to explore different injection points. They can also disable specific injection points temporarily or permanently to avoid areas that may be sensitive or affected by lipodystrophy.
To do so, I developed a module capable on manipulating a SVG file so we van edit vectors position, rotation and colors. By combining this three components, I was able to manipulate the 2D model according to the business rules.
Results and Benefits:
Enhanced Comfort: By zooming in, patients can closely examine and choose injection points that minimize discomfort, reducing pain and bruising caused by repeated injections in the same areas.
Improved Insulin Absorption: The feature's injection point disabling functionality helps optimize insulin absorption by allowing patients to avoid overused or damaged areas. This enhances glycemic control and reduces the risk of insulin resistance.
Personalized Experience: Zooming capabilities and the ability to rotate and disable injection points provide a personalized approach to insulin administration. Patients can customize their injection plan based on their body's unique characteristics and preferences.
Reduced Complications: By empowering patients to avoid sensitive or damaged injection sites, the feature lowers the risk of complications such as infections and poor glycemic control.
Increased Adherence: The interactive injection point management feature offers a more comfortable and flexible injection experience. This positive experience promotes treatment adherence and patient compliance with their insulin regimen.
